Protruding ears make many people feel somewhat self-conscious. Otoplasty is a procedure available to create a more socially acceptable natural appearing ear. The deformities, mostly manifested by undue prominence or protrusion, are corrected by reshaping the ears. The object of the otoplasty is to reform the ear structure by creating more normal curves and contours with the ear often set back closer to the head. The main goal of otoplasty is to make the ear appear relatively more “normal” and less conspicuous to self and to others. Suitable candidates for surgical correction of protruding ears range from early childhood to senior adults.
